Formula 1 cars are in a golden age of technical innovation and design wizardry, but in many ways they're not what they used to be. It's been a long time, for example, since F1 fans heard the screams of Michael Schumacher's 2002 Ferrari, a car he drove to victory in 15 out of 19 Grand Prix. It's been a while too since fans saw the absurdly wide rear axle of the late Aryton Senna's McLaren MP4/6. For gamers, though, these beasts are back in action thanks to F1 2017. The big addition to this year's F1 outing is a roster of classic F1 cars of varying vintage. These vehicles are integrated into both single class and multi class races, and the line-up includes the following: - 1995 Ferrari 412 T2 - 2002 Ferrari F2002 - 2004 Ferrari F2004 - 2007 Ferrari F2007 - 1988 McLaren MP4/4* (DLC car in F1 2017 Special Edition) - 1991 McLaren MP4/6 - 1998 McLaren MP4-13 - 2008 McLaren MP4 -23 - 1992 Williams FW14B - 1996 Williams FW18 - 2006 Renault R26 - 2010 Red Bull Racing RB6 Beyond the roll call of new cars, Codemasters has built on the success of last year's seminal outing with expansions to the career mode (including the first-time inclusion of female drivers and an expanded research and development system) and an all-new Championship Mode, in which players can try events with new rules outside the official Championship. As ever, the devil's in the details. Assists are available, but it's turning them off and upping the race distances so that you can feel your car's performance change down the laps that really rewarded the dedicated fan. To accompany what might seem like a sudden bump in difficulty, however, Codemasters has introduced a new sliding scale from easy to hard, meaning that you can increase how tough the game is gradually to match your ability.
