So popular is the Yu-Gi-Oh series of cartoons that a plethora of video games under the Konami name quickly made an appearance, faithfully based upon the card-battling shenanigans of the animated TV show. However, the video game franchise is now headed in a whole new direction if its own with The Falsebound Kingdom, entering the realm of the RPG proper. Justifying this new style of game is the story itself, in which protagonists Kaiba and Yugi find themselves trapped in a prototype virtual battle system of sorts. Their only hope of escape is to live out the virtual roles assigned to them and overcome the challenges that await in this dangerous world. Getting into the game proper, The Falsebound Kingdom is the standard role-playing formula that sees players meeting and greeting a number of NPCs and solving puzzles amidst a slew of random encounters that serve as a means of levelling up your library of monsters. The battles themselves are relatively simple, allowing players to attack, defend, and use special moves and items. Actions for both participants in battle are governed by a points system that will ultimately decide the victor should there be a stalemate situation involved. While there's nothing revolutionary in the Falsebound Kingdom, this latest Konami-developed game offers a refreshing change from the norm that will be welcomed by Yu-Gi-Oh fans the world over.
