In Dragon Star Varnir you find yourself in a pretty awkward position. Your character, the knight Zephy, reeeaaaaally hates witches. You see, in Varnir witches are cursed to give birth to dragons, and dragons cause all kinds of trouble for the citizens and countrymen of Varnir. They must routinely drink dragon's blood to stop themselves from going mad, but if they drink too much the dragon inside them will burst forth. It's a conundrum, and you can see why Zephy isn't so keen on them. However, when he's nearly killed on a mission to kill a witch, he's brought back from the brink of death by one of their number. Now, he too has the power and the curse of a witch and his fate is inextricably linked with theirs. With a powerful empire out destroy his new allies and the most powerful witch of them all on their tail, can Zephy survive and defeat their enemies? Dragon Star Varnir is, in many ways, a classic JRPG. What sets it apart, however, is the multi-tiered battle system. Thanks to your magic staff, you can move between three different tiers of combat, as can many of your enemies. This adds a literal extra dimension to turn-based combat and makes having a solid strategy a must. Perform enough attacks and you can unleash your own inner dragon, and if you weaken an enemy dragon sufficiently you can devour their element and take their strength!
